Our Family Trip · June 2027

Aloha — let’s plan Hawai‘i together.

Everything we need to choose the right islands, stays, flights, food, and adventures — gathered in one place, built for the four of us, and updated all the way to takeoff.

The big decision

Land-based trip vs. a cruise

This is the first fork in the road. Both can work for us — here’s the honest trade-off. There’s a deeper breakdown on The Cruise and Plan & Budget pages.

🏝️ Stay on the islands

~$12k–$17k
for 4, ~10 nights
  • A kitchen — huge for celiac safety and for controlling food cost
  • Set your own pace; sleep in, linger at the beach
  • Usually the better value, with more budget headroom
  • Go deep on one or two islands instead of skimming
  • You arrange flights, lodging, and a rental car yourself
  • Changing islands means a packing-up day

🚢 Inter-island cruise

~$17k–$24k
for 4 (two cabins), 7 nights + add-ons
  • Unpack once; the hotel moves with you between four ports
  • See Oʻahu, Maui, the Big Island & Kauaʻi in one week
  • The cruise line’s kitchen can pre-plan celiac meals nightly
  • No separate inter-island flights to juggle
  • Two adult cabins make it pricier — but within our flexed budget
  • Port days are early and scheduled — less “relax” time
  • Buffets are a real cross-contamination risk for celiac

Where we’re leaning

For a relaxed pace and celiac safety, a land-based trip with a condo kitchen on one or two islands is the easiest win. With the budget able to flex to $25–30k, cost is no longer the deciding factor — the cruise is comfortably affordable too, so it really comes down to pace: settle in one place, or “see it all, unpack once.”
